A little bit about myself ...

Being an artist means more than just having a paintbrush or chisel in one's hand. It’s a state of mind, a way of seeing the world, and a commitment to one's craft. It means constantly seeking to improve and perfect your work. It also implies self-motivation to keep going even when it’s tough and it means never giving up on your dreams.

Yoga

Asanas are performed to improve flexibility, strength, and balance. Asanas (or yoga poses) help the body's joints, ligaments, and muscles strengthen through movement. A regular yoga practice can, over time, increase flexibility and mobility, lubricating the spine and alignment to aid in everyday activity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Yoga just about Asanas?

Yoga poses are one method you can help you attain peace within yourself by practicing self-discipline and self-awareness. Asanas were not intended to be a standalone practice. Instead, they were meant to complement the other practices of yoga.

  • Yoga is important because it promotes physical, mental, and spiritual health. It can reduce stress, increase flexibility, and improve well-being. It connects our body, mind, and spirit, and helps us reach a better version of ourselves.

  • Although we all have a tendency to identify ourselves with the external aspects of our lives. Yoga encourages us to go deeper into our being and find the inner place that is beyond temporary anchors. This is the source of all energy and creativity in life.

In the yogic tradition, this can be achieved by meditation which classically involves the use of a mantra, or primordial sound. The word mantra means instrument or vehicle of the mind. Mantras are used to take your awareness from engagement in the changing realm of life to immersion in the expanded state of being that is beyond beginnings and endings.

All this is but scratching the surface of what Yoga truly means.

  • Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras was one of the first yogic texts to mention the word asana. You must have heard about the number ’84’.

In yoga, it’s considered that the muscles, joints and different parts of the body can be extended, flexed or rotates in several thousand ways. Hence, Lord Shiva gave 8.4 million moves, which can be attained through yoga practice. Achieving that many moves in one life is not easy for a person and so a further one pose was fashioned for every 100,000 species. That's because in Hinduism, it’s believed that there are 8,400,000 (84 Lakhs) species on this earth.

Thus 84 (8,400,000/100,000) classical asanas came into existence.

  • Headstand (Sirsasana) is considered one of the most intricate yoga poses, among others. As it requires balance and focuses on standing on hand. Regular practice of Sirsasana strengthens the back, thighs, shoulders, improves balance, and increases blood circulation.

  • While there is no wrong way to do any asana, there are a general principles of alignment, breathing techniques, and mindfulness that should be followed to prevent injury and maximize the benefits of yoga.
